Kohli penalized 10% of match fee for breaching IPL code of conduct

Indian cricketing superstar Virat Kohli, a key member of the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), has been fined 10% of his match fee for breaching the Indian Premier League (IPL) Code of Conduct during the team’s recent match against the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) at the Chinnaswamy Stadium.

According to a statement released by the IPL, Kohli was found to have violated the rules under Article 2.2 of the IPL Code of Conduct. The statement did not provide any details about the incident that led to the code of conduct violation, but it is believed to have been caused by Kohli’s enthusiastic celebration after the dismissal of CSK’s middle-order batsman Shivam Dube by Wayne Parnell on Monday.

Dube had played a crucial role in CSK’s massive total of 226 for 6, scoring 52 runs off just 27 balls. Kohli’s RCB ultimately fell short in the ‘Southern Derby’, losing by eight runs.

The IPL statement confirmed that Kohli had admitted to the Level 1 offence under Article 2.2 of the IPL Code of Conduct. “For Level 1 breaches of the Code of Conduct, the Match Referee’s decision is final and binding,” the statement added.

Kohli’s fine serves as a reminder to players that excessive celebrations and other breaches of the IPL Code of Conduct will not be tolerated. The Indian skipper will hope to put the incident behind him as RCB prepare to face the Punjab Kings in their next match at Mohali on April 20.

Despite Kohli’s personal disappointment, RCB will look to bounce back and build on their impressive start to the tournament. They currently sit in third place in the IPL table, having won three of their four matches so far.

The IPL has a strong reputation as one of the most exciting and high-profile T20 cricket tournaments in the world, attracting the world’s top players and millions of fans across the globe. With the tournament still in its early stages, fans can expect plenty more drama, excitement, and controversy as the race for the title heats up.
